17 May Canadians Encouraged to Wear Plaid for Dad before Father’s Day – Big Smoke Burger Official Restaurant Partner
Toronto launch of national fundraising campaign set to take place Wednesday at Nathan Phillips Square with local celebrities
Launched for the first time in 2015, Canadian workplaces and individuals are again invited to designate the ‘Casual Friday’ before Father’s Day as a day to wear Plaid for Dad and raise money in support of the one in eight Canadian men who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. After weeks of fundraising and events, Canadians can wear their plaid ensembles on Friday, June 16th and share photos online using the hashtag #PlaidforDad to showcase their involvement.
In Toronto, to formally launch the national fundraising campaign at the local level, Prostate Cancer Canada will be hosting a Plaid for Dad BBQ of epic proportions at Nathan Phillips Square on Wednesday, May 17th, from noon until 2:00 p.m. This fun-filled lunchtime event will include burgers flipped by celebrity Chef Corbin and a live performance by internationally acclaimed recording artist, Kardinal Offishall, both of Toronto. Admission is free to the public, and proceeds from food and beverage will benefit prostate cancer research.
“Plaid for Dad is an easy and fun opportunity for organizations and individuals to support a cause that impacts all Canadians on some level,” said Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of PCC. “Businesses can take this time to promote their commitment to team-building and philanthropy by making a difference in the lives of all Canadians affected by the most common cancer in men.”
New to this year’s campaign is the opportunity for families to register to host a BBQ and create a fundraising page where family and friends can make a donation in lieu of Father’s Day gifts. Visit plaidfordad.ca to purchase the official Plaid for Dad BBQ Kit. 100% of net proceeds of the kit will support prostate cancer research.
Looking to update your plaid? Hudson’s Bay has you covered.
Canada’s most iconic retailer, Hudson’s Bay has again declared its support for the cause by becoming the Official Retail Partner of Plaid for Dad. Through the support of the HBC Foundation, four different, limited-edition Black Brown plaid shirts have been created, with $20 from each sale going to benefit prostate cancer research. The shirts will be available mid-May 2017 at all Hudson’s Bay locations across Canada and at www.thebay.com.
Plaid looks better on a full stomach
Official Restaurant Partner of Plaid for Dad, Big Smoke Burger®, has partnered with Plaid for Dad celebrity ambassador Chef Corbin Tomaszeski to create the Chipotle BLT Burger. During the month of June, $1 from the sale of each burger will support Prostate Cancer Canada. Additionally customers can also add a $1, $2, or $5 donation to any order to show their support, or purchase the Big Smoke Burger® Plaid for Dad BBQ kit, available at all locations while supplies last.
Social media meets social consciousness
For each photo shared on social media with the hashtag #PlaidForDad until June 18th, Official “Sharing is Caring Partner” of Plaid for Dad, Sanofi Genzyme, will donate $5 to Prostate Cancer Canada (Maximum contribution $10,000).
